Portraits of Artists (2014)

Steve Salo found inspiration in artists through history while creating an exciting series of portraits for his solo exhibition at Metropolis Gallery in March 2014. Portraits of others can reflect as much about the painter as the subject and we find ourselves looking at the artist in the eye of his subjects.

This exhibition represented a rebirth of Steve’s art practice, which came to an abrupt halt when his Surfcoast studio was burnt to the ground in early 2013, destroying much of his painting history. But just as the bush regenerates after fire, Steve’s very expressive paintings flourished on fertile ground. A selection of paintings follows below.
